In our first Meet Rick, learn more about the values and experiences which will guide
Rick Vest as our next Lancaster County Commissioner.
Rick Vest is a lifelong Nebraskan who grew up understanding our state’s values: hard work, responsibility, and community. These values became a part of him as he was growing up in Greenwood, where he was a member of the local Boy Scout Troop and attended Sunday School at the United Methodist Church.
As a young father, Rick went to work at the Havelock Shops for Burlington Northern. Before his retirement in 2015, he worked both blue collar and white collar jobs and grew to understand the needs of both labor and management. In addition, he volunteered countless hours as a youth sports coach and served as a Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Church. Rick is also a Certified Mediator through the State of NE Department of Justice. He has sat with hundreds of Nebraskans in their disputes with others, helping both parties to be heard and their positions understood. Through it all, Rick has worked to develop options to end conflict and move both sides forward.
Rick is proud to have raised his five children here and enjoys watching his 11 grandchildren grow up here as well. He is glad they too are learning Nebraska values.
Rick’s district includes Northeast Lincoln, Waverly, and the surrounding rural areas. As a County Commissioner, Rick would prioritize criminal justice reform, innovative infrastructure investments, opportunity for working families, and bipartisan consensus in local government. (More on his platform here.) With a clear vision and a strong work ethic, Rick is ready to lead the charge to Build Our Future here in Lancaster County.
